After a 7 hr drive, we landed in St. Louis, Illinois, and have parked in a Casino RV park. We can see the Arch from our Motor Home window. Across the Mississippi River is St. Louis.
Missouri. The Missouri River empties into the Mississippi. We went to the Arch "The Gateway to the West". The design started in 1947 and 17 yrs later the completion was finished 1965. It stands 630 feet high and is breathtaking. You ride to the top in a pod of 5 seats in 8 cars, and it works like a Ferris wheel. The ride to the top takes 4 Min's and the ride down takes only 3 Min's. When you get to the top there are windows that you can see 20 miles away on a clear day.
The first picture is from our RV site.
These are taken at the top of the Arch. The second is across the river looking at the Queen Casino and the RV park. The third is a close up of our RV Park. Click on picture.
The St. Louis Cardinals Stadium, the Bush Stadium, The St. Louis Rams.
We walked across the street to the Old Courthouse. The first Federal style courthouse was completed in 1828. This was soon insufficient to meet the needs of the expanding city. It was in transition in 1850, then became the St. Louis City Courthouse in 1876. The official use of the Old Courthouse ended in 1939. In 1936 a fire started in the dome and caused limited damage to the Courthouse. Restoration work began in 1940, is still being used today for special events.
What a site we see every time we look out our window
We leave tomorrow for Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for a week. A overnight in Joplin.
Did the RV Park have any hookups? I couldn't tell from the picture. And I know I woul dhave loved that courthouse!
